Every day we're exposed to all kinds of toxins and chemicals, which can build up in our bodies over time. Having too much of these harmful substances inside us can cause a whole range of negative symptoms, including brain fog and general sluggishness. A good steamy hot bath is already healthy for you. But if you are feeling a need to really cleanse yourself, you should consider a detox bath every now and then to help lower your stress levels, improve your sleep, and give you more energy and better skin.
We recommend trying the following all-natural detox bath. I tried it myself, and I loved how I felt after it.
Before I show you how to make it, I want to briefly explain what goes into it, so that you can get a better understanding of the benefits that this detox bath can provide.
Epsom Salt
The majority of us are deficient in magnesium. This is an essential mineral and plays a big role in nerve and muscle function. Since it can be absorbed through the skin, soaking in a bath with Epsom salt is a great way to replenish your magnesium levels. Another good thing about Epsom salt is that it has anti-inflammatory properties, which help with bruises, sore muscles, skin conditions, and fungal infections.
Bentonite Clay
When mixed with water, this clay becomes highly absorbent, expanding and drawing in other substances like a sponge. When used in a detox bath, this clay helps to draw out impurities and toxins from your skin.
It might seem like a weird ingredient to include in a bath soak, but the acid content of apple cider vinegar is beneficial for softening and soothing itchy, dry skin. Its acid content can also help restore the pH balance of your skin.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are helpful in eliminating toxins. For example, geranium essential oil can help reduce inflammation and promote hormonal balance. Other oils with detoxifying effects include sandalwood, lavender, and ylang-ylang oil.
How to Make This Ultimate Detox Bath
Ingredients
• 2 cups Epsom salt
• 1 cup apple cider vinegar
• 1/2 cup bentonite clay
• 5-10 drops geranium essential oil (or an essential oil of your choice)
Directions
1. Run your bath as hot as you like.
2. Add your ingredients and mix to dissolve.
3. Soak for 20-30 minutes.
4. Drink a glass of water when you have finished.
N.B. After your soak, you will likely feel drained and exhausted. Therefore, it's best to take your detox bath right before you are planning to go to bed. You'll be nice and relaxed afterward, which should help you get a great night's sleep.
