Homemade Sweet Chili Sauce Recipe

Thai Chili sauce is all the rage right now in kitchens across the world. This is how you can make it at home! Also known as sweet chili sauce, it's made using dried chili flakes and is regarded as a sweet condiment that has sour and spicy notes as well. You can enjoy a variety of things with your homemade sweet chili sauce such as wontons, egg rolls, chicken wings, spring rolls, grilled shrimp, vegetables, steamed dumplings, and more.

Homemade Sweet Chili Sauce Recipe
Ingredients for Sweet Chili Sauce:
Rice vinegar - 1/2 cup (or white vinegar)
White sugar - 1/2 cup
Water - 1/4 cup
Sherry wine - 2 tbs
Chili - 1-2 tbsp. (crushed)
Cornstarch - 1 1/2 tbsp. (dissolved in 4 tbs. cold water)
Method of preparing the Sweet Chili Sauce:
  1. In a pot, mix all the ingredients, except for the cornstarch, and bring to a gentle boil. 
  2. Lower to a medium heat and let the contents of the pot boil for about 10 minutes, or until the volume is reduced to half. 
  3. Lower to a small flame, add the cornstarch and mix until you reach a smooth consistency. Keep mixing for about 2 minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat and adjust the seasoning, add sugar or chili as needed.
  5. The sauce will stay fresh for 2-3 months.
