The Beauty of Rogers Pass

In Rogers Pass, where the Trans-Canada Highway and Canadian Pacific Railway wind beneath 134 avalanche paths, military artillery, helicopters, and remote systems control around 2,000 avalanche events each winter. Ski touring was once off-limits here, but that changed with the creation of a permit system designed to protect skiers from controlled avalanches. At the forefront was Sylvia Forest, a pioneering woman in mountain rescue, guiding, and avalanche safety. In 1995, she helped design the system that keeps Rogers Pass safe today. The film follows her reunion with Danyelle Magnan, her mentee, and the first woman on the elite avalanche forecasting team. Together, they reflect on their groundbreaking roles and the changes they've witnessed in mountain culture over the years.
