Nuclear Explosions Make for One Hell of an Earthquake

Four decades ago, feeling a rumble beneath your feet and seeing the lights flicker may not have been a passing train or mild earthquake, but something more powerful...an atomic detonation a few hundred miles from your home. This gigantic explosion happened miles beneath the earth, and yet generated a 6.8 earthquake that is terrifying to watch, raised the ground 5 feet, and gives us an idea of the awesome power of a nuclear explosion. And if this was a bomb 40 years ago, how strong would one be now?
