While we cannot describe these Medieval illustrations of hippos, whales, and elephants with a different word than a FAIL, we must understand that many of these Medieval artists had never seen the animals they had to draw and relied solely on their descriptions. Through this game of broken telephone, these utterly inaccurate and funny depictions of animals were born, and we keep laughing at them more than 6 centuries later!
