In the past, Thailand was considered a place for adults only, but today Thailand is an ideal destination for families with children of all ages, and has in fact replaced France as the most toured country in the world. It offers stunning beaches, unique sights, and exciting animal encounters that will captivate both children and adults. While most places in Thailand are child-friendly, there are some areas to avoid. Days 1-3: Family Fun in Bangkok (Bangkok)
Start your trip in Bangkok, landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, located 25 km east of the city center. Take it easy for the first few days, allowing yourself and your children to relax and absorb the atmosphere of Thailand and the city. Bangkok offers a range of family-friendly hotels with swimming pools and playgrounds, perfect for enjoying your first day without any stress.
On your first night, explore a colorful night market and experience Bangkok's vibrant nighttime vibe. Your children can "hunt for treasures" among the stalls, depending on your arrival time and energy levels.
On the second day, begin your Bangkok adventure with iconic sites like Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Here, your children can see the revered Emerald Buddha statue and enjoy the impressive temple complex. Don’t miss a boat ride along the Chao Phraya River for scenic views and a look at Bangkok's unique water taxis.
For an educational and fun experience, visit SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World, where your children can discover various marine creatures and interactive exhibits. Alternatively, explore the sensory delights of Chinatown’s markets, offering an array of toys and snacks that will intrigue your kids.
Day 4: Historical Adventure in Ayutthaya (Ayutthaya)
Located about 44 miles (70 km) from Bangkok, Ayutthaya is a historical park and a must-visit with family. Here, your children will feel like adventurers exploring the ruins of temples and palaces. The park also features a museum with artifacts, including thin gold square coins, perfect for escaping the bustling city.
Day 5: From Bangkok to Chiang Mai (Chiang Mai)
This day is dedicated to flying from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, giving your children a chance to rest and recharge for the exciting days ahead. Upon arrival, explore local night markets or take a leisurely stroll to relax and prepare for the upcoming adventures.
Days 6-7: Elephant Encounters and Thai Cooking
These days might be the highlight for your children as they meet elephants face-to-face at the ethical Elephant Nature Park. This park focuses on animal welfare, providing a heartwarming and educational experience about these gentle giants.
In Chiang Mai, your children can also become little chefs in Thai cooking classes, creating and decorating their dishes, offering a sense of accomplishment and a tasty meal they prepared themselves.
For young children, the Hidden Park offers play structures, dinosaur statues, animal feeding areas, and a small gymboree. Older children might enjoy the interactive exhibits at Art in Paradise, including a room where they can "stand on the ceiling."
Day 8: Old City of Chiang Mai
Dedicate a day to exploring the Old City of Chiang Mai, a maze of streets adorned with beautiful temples. Your children can search for statues and colorful murals, learning about Thailand's rich history in an accessible way. In the evening, visit markets for more unique souvenirs and local snacks.
Day 9: From Chiang Mai to Krabi (Krabi)
This day involves a flight to Krabi, landing near a stunning beach. Enjoy a swim at Ao Nang Beach or explore the night markets if time and energy permit. Rest and gather strength for the sunny days ahead.
Days 10-13: Adventures in Krab
These days are primarily for relaxation and beach time – the perfect way to end your Thailand trip. Start at Railay Beach, known for its crystal-clear waters, making you feel like you’ve found a hidden paradise. Visit the Emerald Pool, a magical spot in the heart of Thung Thao Nature Reserve, although consider the suitability of the trail for younger children.
Explore the Phi Phi Islands, a dream come true for many. Your children will be thrilled to snorkel in clear waters filled with fish and coves. Maya Bay is a must-see, often regarded as one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
Decide between Phuket and Ko Samui; both islands are worth visiting. Phuket offers a broader range of experiences, ideal for families, while Ko Samui is more tranquil, perfect for relaxation. In Phuket, enjoy beautiful beaches like Kata and Karon and visit Splash Jungle Water Park, the largest and most exciting water park on the island. Explore Phuket Old Town for unique Sino-Portuguese architecture and a glimpse into the island's history.
Day 14: Farewell to Thailand
Your final day will likely involve packing and preparing for your flight home. Avoid planning any special activities to ensure you don’t miss your flight. Reflect on your two weeks of incredible family experiences and take a deep breath before returning to your routine. It may be hard to leave such a wonderful vacation behind, but you’ve created unforgettable memories with your family.
