Greece is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful travel destinations in the world. The European country is known for its natural beauty and fascinating culture. Greece consists of some 6,000 islands. While islands like Santorini, Corfu, Mykonos, and Crete have become popular the world over, the country has several hidden gems as well. Sifnos Island, in the Greek Cyclades, is one such place.

Filled with picturesque alleys, white-washed houses, and beaches with crystal clear waters, Sifnos is a quaint little place and the perfect relaxing getaway.
Sifnos is part of the Western Cyclades Islands. It is located near Serifos, Kimolos, and Milos. The capital of Sifnos is Apollonia.

This understated island in the Aegean Sea is home to about 2,600 residents and doesn’t get over-swarmed with tourists. While it may not be as touristy as some of the other Greek islands, Sifnos has the perfect balance of beautiful beaches and great food.
In fact, it’s the birthplace of Greece's most famous chef, Nikolaos Tselementes, and is dotted with restaurants everywhere. Some of the typical dishes that you can enjoy here include clay pot slow-cooked chickpeas with onions, fourtalia omelet with sausage and potatoes, wild mutton, briny caper salads, and delicious local wine.

There are three main villages in Sifnos – Apollonia, Artemos, and Kastro. All of them are teeming with white-washed houses that are typical of Cycladic architecture. Most of the houses on the island are interconnected with cobblestone alleys, terraced olive groves, and almond trees. Pots of geraniums add a splash of color to the sparkling white alleys.
Wandering around these picturesque alleys is such a relaxing experience.

The hallmark of Sifnos is its architecture and natural beauty. You will find several neoclassical homes with beautiful courtyards here. You can also take a swim in the ancient port of Sedalia and walk up to the ancient settlement of Kastro. Wrap your day by admiring a gorgeous sunset from the beach.
