The Procedure: Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water, add a large amount of vinegar, and add a few slices of lemon. Microwave the solution on high for five minutes, then leave the door closed for five more minutes so everything inside gets nice and steamy. Then, wipe down using a dry paper towel.
The Result: This works! The mixture loosens all the food splatters that coat the inside of a microwave, making it a lot easier to wipe off. All that is left is a sparkling clean surface and the lovely scent of lemon.
2. WD-40 as Crayon Remover
The Procedure: Place some paper towels on the crayon stain, then turn the clothing over. Spray some WD-40 on the back of the stain, and let it sit for 5 minutes before flipping the garment back over and spraying some WD-40 onto the stain. Rinse under cold water, then wash as normal.
The Result: This method really works, but there’s a step that can be added that really helps remove a super tricky crayon stain. After you have rinsed the WD-40 off, work some dish detergent into the stain, then throw the garment into the wash.
3. Inexpensive Makeup Sponge Cleaner
The Procedure: If you have a Beauty Blender or other type of makeup sponge, you will know that after just a few uses it appears beyond repair. Usually, to get your sponge looking new again, you will have to buy some sort of expensive cleaner. However, it is said that scrubbing your sponge onto a cheap bar of soap will work just as well.
The Result: For the first 5-7 minutes, the makeup looks like it is coming off, but after this time frame it just stops working and no more makeup is removed.
The Procedure: Add baking soda, a generous volume of hydrogen peroxide, and more baking soda to your dirty cookie sheets. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes, then scrub aggressively to leave your cookie sheets looking brand new.
The Result: This makes a slight difference; some of the dirt comes off, but it takes a lot of scrubbing to get a decent result. Not worth the effort in our opinion.
5. DIY Glass Cleaner
The Procedure: Mix equal parts water, rubbing alcohol, and vinegar in a spray bottle, then use this as a spot and streak-free glass cleaner.
The Result: This works as well as store-bought cleansers. Besides the grimiest of windows, this mixture can make a glass surface shine with next to no effort.
6. Toilet Bowl Grout Cleaner
The Procedure: Instead of using specific grout cleaner or relatively expensive gel bleach pens, use gel toilet bowl cleaner – you can control where the gel goes using a spout, and the gel stays in place while it bleaches.
The Result: The toilet bowl will look clean, but the bleach stinks. No matter what you do, it’s going to linger in your bathroom for at least a day. We recommend you just buy grout cleaner.
The Procedure: Crumple up some aluminum foil into a ball and toss it into your dryer to prevent your garments from becoming static.
The Result: This definitely works. This simple hack keeps static off your clothes just as well as a store-bought “static ball” does. Furthermore, you can use the same ball again.
8. Descale Your Shower Head
The Procedure: Fill a Ziploc bag with vinegar, add some baking soda, then secure the bag over your shower head (or kitchen faucet) using a rubber band. Leave for 1-2 hours, then remove to reveal an unclogged, clean shower head.
The Result: Not only does this make your shower head look clean, but it also kills stubborn mildew fast. Furthermore, it also helps to make your water pressure stronger, making for a more enjoyable (and less gross) shower.
9. One powerful Carpet Cleaner
The Procedure: Combine ½ a gallon of vinegar, ½ a cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of dish soap, and add to a spray bottle. Spritz the mixture onto a carpet stain, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe away with a damp cloth/paper towel.
The Result: This works! This all-natural solution really gets those stubborn stains out of the carpet. Furthermore, this mixture can also be used to kill any garden weeds.
