Easy Cake Decorating in 4 Ways

Presentation of food is almost as important as flavor. Some would even go as far as saying that food presentation can make food taste better - particularly when it comes down to cakes. Yet while there are some pretty impressive cake decorating techniques, most look a little beyond our skill level. Thankfully, your cake decorating techniques don't require a degree from cooking school.

We searched the web to find the best, yet easiest, way to decorate cakes and found four ways to do so that are pretty simple to do and still look lovely. With some frosting, a fork and a spoon, making a cake has never been so easy. Techniques for designing these cakes require no piping bags or special tools. Take a look:

Cake Decorating in 4 Ways

What you'll need:

A ready baked cake
Buttercream Icing

Method 1: Basket Weave Icing

Simply drag the tines of a fork through the frosting horizontally and then vertically in an alternating pattern then wipe off any excess frosting from your fork after each pass.

Method 2: Striped Icing

Drag the back of a spoon across the frosting creating lines and/or stripes. After each row, wipe the frosting from the spoon.

Method 3: Swooped Icing

Using the back of a spoon, create swoops and swirls through the frosting.

Method 4: Rippled Icing

Form small waves over the top of a cake by dipping the tines of a fork into the frosting and gently pulling up.
