What is it about mini foods that makes them so cute and virtually irresistible? These mini pizza burger bites are the ultimate party food, and best of all, you can make the sauce a day ahead and just bake these savory treats half an hour before dinner. Both kids and adults will love this delicious comfort food, it's a no-brainer for any social gathering.

Ingredients for Pizza Burger Bites:

Cooking spray - to grease the muffin tins

Hamburger buns - 6 (split to tops and bottoms)

Olive oil - 1 tbsp.

Ground beef - 1 lb. (lean)

Yellow onion - 1/2 medium (diced)

Pizza sauce - 1 cup

Salt and pepper - to taste

Sliced black olives - 1/2 cup

Basil leaves - for garnish

Pepperoni - to taste (optional)

Mozzarella - 1 1/2 cup (shredded)

Method of preparing the Pizza Burger Bites:

Place the rack in the middle of the oven and preheat it to 350°F (180°C).
Spray a muffin tin well with cooking spray. Press the hamburger bun halves to flatten them to about a 1/4-in thick.
Press the 12 flattened bun halves into the greased muffin tin, cut-side up.
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan on medium heat and add in the ground beef, stirring continuously to prevent the meat from clumping up. Cook until lightly browned. This should take around 5 minutes.
To the same pan, add the onion and continue cooking until translucent.
Transfer the contents of the frying pan to a large mesh sieve and let any excess fat and juices drain. Then return the meat and onion mixture to the pan and stir in the pasta sauce. Season the sauce with salt and pepper if needed.
Spread the sauce out evenly among burger bun cups, then add any other toppings of your choice and sprinkle each burger cup with mozzarella.
Bake the pizza burger bites until the cheese has melted and browned on the sides. This will take around 15 minutes.
Remove from the oven and let the pizza burger bites rest for 5 minutes before serving topped with fresh herbs.
