Prep Time
2 hours and 10 minutes
Method of preparing the filling:
-
Mix together the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a small bowl. Set aside.
-
Brown the butter and set aside.
Method of preparing the dough:
-
Mix the 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast and salt in a large mixing bowl, and then set aside.
-
Melt 4 tablespoons of butter and milk in a small saucepan. When the butter has melted completely, remove from the heat and add in the water and vanilla extract. Let the mixture cool for 5 minutes, and then pour into the dry ingredients.
-
Whisk together the eggs and add to the batter. Keep mixing. Add 3/4 c of flour and mix well. The mixture will be sticky.
-
Place the dough in a medium greased bowl. Cover with wrap and let it sit in a warm place to rise for about 30-45 minutes.
-
When the dough has doubled in size, knead 2 tablespoons of flour into it. Cover the dough and leave it to rest for 10 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 350˚F (180˚C).
-
When the dough is ready, you can roll it out on a floured surface.
-
Brush the dough with butter and pour the filling over the brushed surface. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough horizontally into 6 equal-sized strips.
-
Stack the strips on top of each other and cut vertically into six equal squares.
-
In a bread pan, place the squares side by side, and cover the dough for another 15 minutes, to allow it to rise a bit more.
-
Bake for 30 minutes and serve.
