The Best Oven-Roasted Pulled Pork
Ingredients for Oven Pulled Pork:
Pork shoulder - 4 lbs. (boneless)
Brown sugar - 3 tbsp.
Smoked paprika - 1 tbsp.
Ground cumin - 1 tsp.
Onion powder - 1 tsp.
Garlic powder - 1 tsp.
Kosher salt - 1 tbsp.
Ground black pepper - to taste
Vegetable oil - 2 tbsp.
Lager beer - 12 oz.
Method of preparing the Oven Pulled Pork:
  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Cut the pork shoulder into big pieces and trim any excess fat.
  3. Whisk together brown sugar, paprika, cumin, garlic and onion powder, salt, and pepper. Massage the spice and sugar mixture into the pork. You can let the spiced pork sit and infuse with the spices overnight in the fridge.
  4. Heat oil in a large Dutch oven on medium-high heat. One by one, sear the pork pieces on each side until nicely browned but not burnt.
  5. Remove the Dutch oven from heat, nestle all the pork into it, and pour the beer over the meat. Cover it all with a lid and transfer the pork to the oven.
  6. Cook the pork until it's very tender. This should take around 2.5-3 hours. Check by piercing the meat with a fork every hour or so.
  7. When the pork is ready, remove the lid and roast the pork for another 1-2 hours until the pork is pull-apart tender.
  8. Remove the pork from the Dutch oven and let it rest for another 15-20 minutes. Then shred the pork with two forks.
