Italian-Style Bread Pudding

This delectable recipe combines traditional Christmas desserts from two countries - the United States and Italy. It is a chocolatey bread pudding made of store-bought Panettone sweet bread soaked in a spiced creamy batter and baked until golden. What a special winter treat!

Italian-Style Bread Pudding
Ingredients for Italian-Style Bread Pudding:
Panettone - 1 (store-bought)
Eggs - 2
Sugar - 2 tbsp.
Heavy cream - 1 cup
Whole milk - 2/3 cup
Vanilla Extract - 1/2 tsp.
Ground cinnamon - 1 tsp.
Orange zest - from 1/2 orange
Unsalted butter - 2 tbsp. (melted)
Powdered sugar - for dusting
Method of preparing the Italian-Style Bread Pudding:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Cut the panettone into big cubes and pack them in an oven-safe casserole dish tightly.
  3. Drizzle the liqueur over the panettone.
  4. Lightly beat the eggs and sugar together, then add the cream, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and orange zest and stir to combine.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the panettone and let it soak for 5 minutes.
  6. Brush the top of the bread pudding with melted butter. Top with chocolate chips and bake for 40-45 minutes in the oven.
  7. Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with some whipped cream on the side.
