Although it resembles a sea anemone, the Hopkins’ rose nudibranch is, in fact, a sea one-inch-long sea creature from North America is unbelievably pink, save for its white-tipped papillae. Nudibranchs use their colors to warn predators that eating them could result in dangerous consequences.
Initially, scientists believed the vibrant hues of this sea slug served as a display of aposematism to deter predators. However, subsequent findings have established that these colors do not indicate venom or harm to humans. These creatures consume bryozoans using their radula, while their extended papillae appendages assist in their locomotion. Bryozoans are colonial animals, which means they live in colonies where individual organisms link up in groups called zooids.
7. Amazon River Dolphin
The pink-toothed whale is only found in South America. They are the largest river dolphin species, reaching heights of over eight feet (2.43 m) and weighing over 400 pounds (181.4 kg). Some individuals, especially men, develop a pale pink color. They are born gray but gradually turn pink. The precise reason is unknown. Some say it is scar tissue from fighting.
The IUCN classified Amazon River dolphins as endangered in 2018. Primary risks include using them as fish bait, fishing with explosives, and mining operations contaminating river water.
