To create the bridges, click with your mouse or with your finger, and hold until you think the bridge is the right size for the hero to cross. Remember, it's not enough to make it long enough, it you make it TOO long, he'll fall from the other side! So make sure it's just the right length to put him safely on the next spot.
On the way, try to collect as many red diamonds as you can, because the game will offer you many things you can trade for those diamonds, such as more characters and a chance to start from where you left off instead of restarting the level.
