Artist Restores Nearly Destroyed Precious Vintage Photos

Photo restoration is an extremely challenging task. In order to complete a faithful restoration project, the artist has to be well-versed not only in art, anatomy, and photo editing, they must also possess a vast knowledge of history and know the color palette of each era. Mario Unger, an Austrian photographer, has all of those skills and more, as the self-taught artist is also a digital artist and a landscape photographer.

We have previously featured his colorization projects of famous figures in history and film scenes, but in this article, we’d like to present to you one of his most heartfelt projects, in which he restores photos he found or people have sent him that were literally falling to pieces. Unger reconstructs and sometimes colorizes these seemingly irreparable photos, giving them a brand new life and also giving back the precious memories of loved ones to many families.
