A bus stop or metro station would likely be the last place you'd expect to see works of art, except perhaps street art or graffiti. However, many remote areas in the former Soviet Union previously put an immense amount of work into building beautiful, creative, and unique transportation shelters.
Photographer Christopher Herwig, who hails from Canada, has long since had a fascination with the ornate and intricate architecture found far and wide across European countries like Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, and many others that were once part of the USSR. To complete his 2nd book on the topic, he journeyed 10,000 miles across the former Soviet Union capturing metro stations, subways, and bus stops that screamed opulence and creativity.
