Unsightly splotches of rust under the faucet of the bathtub can look really ugly. But there are two effective ways you can get them off.
* Sprinkle borax on the rust stains.
* Take the cut half of a big lemon and rub it over the stains until a thick paste has formed.
* Let the paste sit for about an hour.
* Use a microfiber cloth to gently scrub the mixture away.
* Wipe and rinse.
If the above solution doesn’t work, try the mixture of baking soda and vinegar next.
* Combine three parts baking soda to one part vinegar in a bowl and stir until a thick paste is formed.
* Apply the paste on the rusty areas of the tub using a scrub sponge.
* Let it sit for an hour. Scrub and rinse it off.
* If the rust stains don’t go away on the first attempt, repeat the process a few more times.

* Make sure that you don’t use steel wool or extremely abrasive brushes on the tub. They might help you get rid of the stains but the surface might get permanently damaged.
* Keep in mind that bathtubs are made from a variety of materials, such as acrylic, enamel, and porcelain, and each tub can react differently to cleaners. Therefore, we suggest you first do a spot test with the cleaning method you intend to try on a small, unnoticeable area of the tub before attempting to remove the stains.
* For general cleaning of acrylic, enamel, and porcelain tubs, dishwashing liquid will be safe and ideal
* Hydrogen peroxide and bleach can discolor fabrics. So make sure to wear old clothes while using such chemicals for cleaning.
* Some chemical combinations can create toxic fumes or singe your skin – like chlorine bleach and ammonia, for instance. Avoid mixing them at all costs.
* While cleaning your bathtub, always start with the gentlest method first. If it doesn’t work, then move your way to the more serious ones.
* Keeping your bathtub spotlessly clean always requires regular effort. Try to rinse the tub surface with clean, warm water, or dishwashing liquid at least once a week. Remove the excess moisture with a microfiber cloth or sponge.
