These Classic Vehicles May Be Odd But They Define Cool

There’s something about looking at vintage vehicles, isn’t there? No matter how many classic automobiles you might have seen, you can’t stop yourself from being captivated by vehicles of the past if you come across one. Perhaps it is because of their unusual designs or the fact that they provide us a glimpse of a fascinating past that we wish we could have been a part of.

1. A Welbike – a single-seat British motorcycle that was produced during World War II. It could run at a speed of 30 mph (48 km/h) and is known as the smallest motorcycle ever used by the British Armed Forces.

3. The Schienenzeppelin or rail zeppelin. It was an experimental railcar, designed and developed by the German aircraft engineer Franz Kruckenberg in 1929, which resembled the Zeppelin airship in its looks.

4. The 1920 Curtiss "Scooter" airboat built by aircraft engineer Glenn Curtiss. It was a 6-passenger, closed-cockpit, propeller-driven motorboat powdered by an aircraft engine that could move at 50 mph (80.4 km/h).

5. An ostrich-drawn cart from the Cawston Ostrich Farm, California, 1919.

6. A North American XP-82 (44-83887) long-range interceptor in flight. This unique aircraft was a prototype of what became the F-82 Twin Mustang.

7. Built by Jess Dixon of Andalusia, Ala, this 'flying car' could fly forward, backward, straight up, or hover in the air.  It could run on the road or fly across the air at speeds of up to 100 mph (161 km/h).

8. A Cypher UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) from the late 1980s. The design was powered by a four-stroke, 2.85 kW (3.8 hp) engine, was 1.75 meters (5.75 feet) in diameter, 55 centimeters (1.8 feet) tall, and weighed 20 kilograms (43 pounds). It was eventually canceled.

9. A propeller-driven Hélica car (also known as 'The plane without wings') from the 1920s built by Frenchman Marcel Leyat.

10. A one-wheel motorcycle from 1933. It was built by M. Goventosa of Udine, Italy, and was capable of speeds of 150 km/h, or about 93 mph.

12. A Coanda snow sleigh or ice sled from 1911 that was powered by an engine designed by Romanian inventor Henri Coandă.
