Make Your Porcelain Sink Sparkle In Just 4 Steps

Porcelain sinks are very classical, and although some people are choosing to replace them for more modern metallic ones, others wish to keep them due to their unparalleled ability to add character to a kitchen or bathroom. The problem with porcelain sinks is that they can become severely stained, resulting in unsightly marks that can be rather difficult to remove. If you have a porcelain sink that’s in need of some serious TLC, this is the perfect guide for you:

1. Get hold of some of this stuff

The first thing you’ll need to do is get hold of some Bar Keepers Friend. This powdered cleaning agent got its name from its fantastic ability to make bar fixtures sparkle. It employs oxalic acid as its primary active ingredient, which means that it isn’t as abrasive as some other cleaning powders, while at the same time it is just as effective as them.
2. Dish soap, a sponge and warm water

To start the process, thoroughly wash your porcelain sink with dish soap or dishwasher detergent using a sponge and warm water. Once you’re done scrubbing, rinse it all down. After you complete this step, your sink should already look much better, however, it’ll look far from done.

3. Spray with bleach and scrub

Next, spray bleach, or a bleach product, over the entire sink and leave it to sit for a few minutes. Gently scrub the sink again and rinse. At this point, any yellowing should have been eliminated, but tougher, darker stains are still likely to be visible.
4. Apply Bar Keepers Friend and continue scrubbing

Apply a small amount of Bar Keepers Friend to any stains that are still visible, and scrub them in a circular motion. After a little scrubbing, you’ll watch them magically disappear.

And there you have it – a sparkling, immaculate porcelain sink!
