Alexi Torres is a well-known artist from Cuba. He's best known for his intricate oil paintings that are painted to appear as if they were knitted or woven. To do this, he uses a technique which involves using a signature basket weaving style to create the painting. Each, takes about 20 layers to intricately weave the image. He uses brushes of various sizes and textures to complete the look.
Alexi says that he uses "this woven effect to further underscore human connection and the interdependence between man and nature," adding "this method is intended to symbolize not only how much stronger we are connected, but also how vulnerable we become when separated from one another."
