The 9 Year Old Who Runs a Non-Profit Shelter.
By: Shai Kuritzky
Ken is only 9 years old, but he has already harbored a dream. Ken adores animals and has hoped to one day open an animal shelter of his own to help those animals in need that he sees. However, he never thought his dream would come true so fast.
Despite his age, Ken has done his best to help the local stray dogs and cats he meets near his home in the Philippines. He spends time with them, gives them food and tries to make them feel loved. But what Ken lacked were the resources to really ease their lives.

Then, a few months ago, photos of Ken helping out 3 stray dogs burst into the internet, and with a loud roar, people from all over the globe were inspired by him, and started to send donations.
"We got enough money to get the dogs I was feeding off the street, feed them high quality canned food, and provide them with veterinary care," ken posted on his website.
The money helped Ken and his father to build a temporary shelter for these three dogs, now named Blackie, Brownie and White Puppy, in their home's garage. |
Ken has now named his shelter the "Happy Animals Club".

Ken updates the kind people who donated on a regular basis. Recently he wrote to them how the three dogs have gained a lot of weight, their open wounds healed and their fur, instead of coming in tufts, is now whole again. |
This is one of the photos that became famous around the world, inspiring people from all over the globe to send donations to Ken.

White Puppy suffered from Mange. This is him before the Happy Animals Club stepped in to help.
"Here's how they look after two months of care at Happy Animals Club. Their names are Blackie, Brownie, and White Puppy and they will be offered up to adoption any day now!" Writes Ken.

We could use more kids like Ken, who devote themselves to helping, in any way they can.
